Genuinely Lazy People Make Great Designers
Design, the fabulous word, is always connected with words like “creativity”, “aesthetic”, “fashion”, “functional” and “art”. Design itself may involve considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment and even re-design. The process of design is so complicated that there is a whole science about design which is called “Design Science”.
Complicated enough, huh? Then, how can design be done by lazy people? Isn’t it a little bit too hard for lazy people to go through the whole process of researching, thinking, modeling, and etc?
Well, as I see it, if someone gives up in the middle of designing, then this person is just not lazy enough. Because this means that he/she can still put up with the old way of living/working, and he/she is prepared to go through the previous process which might be complicated, low efficient, and less comfortable.
This kind of people are not “genuinely lazy”, they are just “ordinarily lazy” - only lazy when they have difficulties working something out. But “genuinely lazy” people want nothing else but making life easier and better. They are not afraid of working things out, what they are afaid of are just inconvinience, ugliness and unpractical items. So they are willing to go every efforts to make their life convinient, practical and beautiful. They can be so lazy that they can hardly stand any user-unfriendly design which may waste them a little time or energy. When they see it, they can’t help but wanting to make things right. And this kind of super laziness and stubborness drive designers to do their best to make life simple and good.
So, from now on, what I will do is: try to be lazy, genuinely lazy, as lazy as possible, and learn to be a better designer!
